"Dahana Ranch spreads out as far as the
senses can go. One's imagination tends to make it go even farther.
Not being able to see anything but miles of green, sweeping pasture,
roller coaster hills, mares and foals, pigs, and Harry's father's
work truck, charges one with the delight of Snoopy at suppertime!"
Kelly Jurgenson
This land first began as a grant from the King in 1848 known as
the "Great Mahele".
Dahana Ranch, formally known as Nakoa Ranch, started as a native
Hawaiian award in 1951 by my father, William Pa'akaula Kalawaia'nui.
Planting new grasses from New Zealand by hand with one horse plow,
he started a very successful cattle, horse and hog operation until
retiring in 1988.
"As the youngest of 6, says Harry Nakoa, I am presently operating
this land; breeding, raising and training fine registered American
Quarter Horses. We also train working cow horses, rope, cutting
horses and polo ponies. Our ranch is a 140 head cow/calf operation
of crossbred Brahma for beef and rodeo bucking stock."
Our Quarter Horses have competed in rodeos throughout the state
of Hawaii and nationally.
